If the Mail on Sunday had not decided to rant and rave about it, we would never have heard anything about this phone call. There were two complaints on the night, but when the Mail published it as their front page headlines, another 1500 xenophobic middle Englanders complained.

The Mail are a paper who thought there was nothing wrong with Bernand Manning and his racist and sexist jokes. They are totally against goths (Georgina Baillie is the type of person frown upon by the Mail in every other circumstance). In fact they are against anyone who is not middle class and a capitalist pig. If you are black, white with no money, a single mother, an asylum seeker, a trade unionist, non-Tory supporter, the Mail hate you.

The Mail have supported openly Hilter, Pinochet, Saddam Hussein, Pol Pot and a whole host of dictators, but a joke phone call is deemed

far worse. They are absolute hypocrites.

Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross should not have done the call and the BBC should not have broadcast it, but put it into real context.

I'm not saying what he did was right, but I dont think he should have been given a punishment like that. It was a joke that went too far and from what I heard, it was pre-recorded so whoever let it on air is really to blame. Of course the phone messages would have still been a problem but the media has blown what happened out of proportion. Like you said, a 3 month holiday doesn't sound too bad, even if it is costing him just over £1 million. It's more of a punishment to the viewers and the BBC as Friday Night... was popular, so would probably be making them lose viewers and money. Also what about the crew and everyone working on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross - are they out of work for 3 months too without pay? How would it be fair for them if they didn't do anything? Why not change a 12 week suspension without pay to a 4 week suspension without pay and then the other 8 weeks make him do the show without pay. That would seem a smarter punishment because then he is doing the work for free basically and also the crew of the show get to still work, plus we all still get to watch each week and the BBC get to keep their ratings up. I'd only just started watching it again after not knowing it was on and then we have to be punished by not getting to watch it!? I hope he gets put back on air sooner, if not I hope the BBC loses a lot of viewers for suspending him so long. Anyway they'll see the effect in the ratings after tonight.

What a total fuss over nothing. Radio 2 knew what they were getting when they employed Russell Brand - he isn't Tony Blackburn for God's sake. Georgina Baillie has publicly admitted that she slept with him (not that she had a 'relationship' with him by the way) She is also a stripper and erotic dancer who 'performs' with a group called the Satanic Sluts. If anybody has embarrassed Grandad it's Georgina herself. The only embarrassment Russell and Jonathan caused is in highlighting the fact that Manuel's grandchild is a whore.

The whole situation is ridiculous - whoever jumps to the radical conclusions that they should be fired is just encouraging the media storm surrounding the fairly innocuous issue. I admit it wasn't particularly funny in terms of Ross and Brand's usual humour, but it only seems to be deemed offensive because people who are not familiar with Ross and Brand and the nature of their work have read transcripts of the calls and haven't ever taken account of the tone in which the calls were made; it is obvious to anyone that Ross and Brand were in a silly mood and never meant to seriously offend Sachs. Fair enough, it is a broadcaster's job to regulate what they say and not blurt out whatever comes into their heads, but given the wider context of the show and its light-hearted nature, it is obvious no harm was meant.

Anyway, has it ever entered anyone's mind that Georgina Baillie actually DID have sex with Russell Brand? In my opinion, anyone who is that stupid deserves to be framed. And just in general, I hate it when the media (especially papers like the Daily Mail) takes sides in petty arguments like this and victimises one side without taking account of the whole story. Everyone needs to take a breather and realise what a trivial issue this is, and notice that the innocent situation doesn't at all deserve the storm of negative media it has received.

And although I am an avid fan of Russell Brand's show, I generally don't like Jonathan Ross as much, and believe myself to be totally unbiased (like all the older generation that condemn the calls are! - they see a young comedian and judge him on his non-conforming hairstyle and history of drugs and sex etc).

Sorry, I've been ranting on waaay too long about this now, hope you can see my points though...

if Andrew Sachs isn't that bothered about it then everyone who has complained should go back into the hole they came out of and get a life. they are just being nosey and have nothing better to do. russell brand shouldn't of resigned from the bbc he was telling the truth he has had sex with georgina baillie.

This is annoying me now - I bet most of the people getting so bent out of shape about it haven't even listened to the radio show in question.

If they had they would

1. realise that it was entirely Jonathon Ross that made the insulting comments

2. realise they attempted to apologise

3. the BBC are the only people to blame as they let it air

I feel for Andrew Sachs and strongly believe it is the BBC's fault for airing it and the medias fault for causing such an uproar, they are to blame for his embarrassment. I honestly don't believe that he would have been that offended when he got home and listened to the messages, all it would have needed was a personal apology from Brand and Ross and it could have been forgotten about.

The issue for me is the age of Andrew Sachs. I am in my sixties and know that I am far more sensitive these days than I was when I was young. The smallest things upset me now that wouldn't have done in the past. We shouldn't be approached by other people and insulted whatever age we are though. Andrew Sachs appears to be a gentlemen, which society these days doesn't have many of. Both Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand do nothing to enhance the manners of the nation and I respect Russell Brand more now that he has resigned. It is time to stop thinking that it is alright for celebrities to do as they like at the expense of others.

I guess they did have a relationship, but I think that russell resigning was a good decision based on the amount of coverage that they had, but the radio show was so funny, and the BBC can't say that they didn't expect that from him, I think whoever let that pre recorded show be aired should be the one in trouble

well i think the whole phone call has been blown out of proportion and given too much media attention, i bet out of the 30,000 people who complained, not even half of them actually listened to the radio show! if it wasnt being brought to everyones attention by the media, there wouldnt be as many people getting offended. ross and brand are hilarious, it was a joke, sorry but get over it.

and she probably has, i mean its not as if she is a sweet little grandaughter, shes a glamour model, and the picture shown on 8 out of 10 cats leaves not much to the imagination

Yes, they had a relationship, and surprise surprise, this morning her story is in the sun! hmm

Anyway, I think they are a pair of fools. I am a huge fan of them both, but this time they really have gone too far. The thing is, when people get as successful and popular as those two, sometimes it can go to their heads and they think they are untouchable and can do what they want.

And now they have thrown away their glittering careers. Like I said, what a pair of fools. I will miss Russell Brand's saturday night radio show. Oh well.

Russel & georgina had a brief fling- maybe that means a one night stand. whatever , what he said was true. being a satanic ****, i doubt she actually feels offended. Also, andrew sacs CONSENTED to this being aired- he was played the show first and he said ok to it.

What do i think? it was funny....childish...but i listened and laughed at the shock...they always make prank calls on radio 1, whats the fuss about this one?

and what will i watch on friday nights? i think they are both great!

Childish and stupid but not a huge deal. Shouldn't have been aired. Should have been dealt with privately with an apology. Not just Brand & Ross' fault - they didn't press the broadcast button.

Yes she did - about two years ago, but then who hasn't?

I think they were incredibly immature and It has all got out of hand. But the reason that has happened is because it was handled so badly. While the initial phone call was a stupid gag that went wrong, the apology afterwards was just insulting and arrogant.

The bigger they imagine they are, the harder they fall.

she admitted she had f***ed him. but i wouldnt think it was much. just a fling. she just wants attention, and OF COURSE she is enjoying all the coverage. which aspiring page 3 girl wouldnt??

personally, i think it has blown out of proportion by people who don't listen to his show. They have taken away 2 shows which i enjoy listening to along with the MANY people to got brands podcast (usually number 1 on itunes).

Also, people are just jumping on the bandwagon, and at thi 'credit crunch' time, people dont want their money spent on this.

people should just get over it now.

No. I used to like Russel Brand but I think he's an a.r.s.e now. I read his 'booky wook' and I thought he was a decent guy but now I think he's pathetic. Don't get me started on Ross. Idiots!
anonymous
2008-10-30 09:39:16 UTC
yes she has and after the original broadcast before the media got hold of it, she put on her 'satanic sluts' website that they had been endorsed by russel brand because she got a mention on his show

therefore, she was happy originally to be mentioned, all be it in a shocking way, now all of a sudden, she is shocked by it

Anyone in the public eye should set a standard. Young people unfortunately think - if they can do it so can I. look at how youths spit (why)? in the public place - watching footballers do the same (why)?

THE MATTER OF ROSS/BRAND ONLY DEMONSTRATES HOW LOW SOCIETY HAS FALLEN.

Stupid and not funny, the sort of calls t**ts make at sleepovers when they're kids, not worthy of all the fuss made about them though and yes I think he did.
