Question:
Gary Busey, people think he is crazy?

On December 4, 1988, Busey was severely injured in a motorcycle accident in which he was not wearing a helmet. His skull was fractured, and doctors feared he suffered permanent brain damage. Busey was seen by psychiatrist Dr. Charles Sophy. Sophy suspected that Busey's brain injury has had a greater effect on him than realized. He described it as essentially weakening his mental "filters" and causing him to speak and act impulsively.

How cruel is our society that we make total idiots of the people who most deserve our compassion? Would you be okay with society calling your mother a nutcase, and broadcasting her most embarrassing moments on TV, had she been involved in an accident which caused her brain damage?

Why are we so MEAN as a culture? Can't anyone see he is brain damaged? He deserves compassion, not ridicule. It's so un-PC to make fun of 'little people', or people of different races, or even people BORN retarded. Look at the Black Eyed Peas, they had to have the radio edit the lyric 'Let's get Retarded', because it was so offensive. Why is what we have done to Mr. Busey not offensive?!

Busey was a cocaine user and considered weird before he fell off his bike. He was the Charlie Sheen of his day and much of the brain damage can be attributed to severe drug use prior to the accident. I understand what you're saying but a psychiatrist can't determine the effects of brain injuries the way Neurologists and Brain Injury Specialists can. Depakote is a mood stabilizer for Bipolar Disorder so the shrink is just throwing a med at him that evidently isn't even working.

I always like Gary Busey was one of my favorite, never knew what had happened to him until I read all this. Still one of my favorite, I remember his career, love to hear his comments on Tru-TV show. Also like his ad for computer speed drive. He played some awesome roles.

It's not cruel. No one forced him to appear on Celebrity Apprentice - that was his own choice.

Not to mention he seems perfectly happy in the role he plays, whether the 'crazy' is put on or not.

It's possible you're being the cruel one by stating he's brain damaged when he might not be. How do you know for certain? Have you seen his medical records personally?

And FYI, we haven't 'done' anything to Mr. Busey.
