I heard it was an OD but I don't know whether it was accidental or not. It's sad when someone so young with a promising career dies, not matter what the circumstances.

His death was officially ruled an accidental overdose.

"Heath Ledger's death on Jan. 22 was due to an accidental mixture of prescription drugs, New York City's Chief Medical Examiner has concluded."

It's so unfortunate - he was so young.

He died from taking a lethal cocktail of prescription drugs. He was suffering from insomnia from working too hard on the set of Batman that he took sleeping pills with a few other types for pain. It was deemed an accidental overdose. No signs of suicide.

He died of an accidental overdose. He mixed sleeping pills with some other kinds of medications. It's a shame. He didn't deserve to die.

I don't know if it was necessarily "accidental" because I heard that he wasn't sleeping right after he played the part of the joker in "The Dark Night". They said that he kept taking pills to help him...So yeah, it was an overdose.

He died from and acidental overdose of perscribed sleeping drugs, all from his performance in batman which made him suffer from insomnia, its a shame because he was simply brilliant at acting the joker in the dark night its got to be the best acting he has ever done but it was too much for him the extreme stress must have been too much

it was an accidental prescription drug overdose... the doctors that he went and saw put him on different narcotics for sleeping, depression, and anxiety. he was found in the hotel room by the maid, while he was STILL ALIVE... and instead of calling the medics, she called mary-kate olsen, and wasted 15 minutes... it was said to have been accidental because it was just a slight margin that he was over his actual prescribed amount... and if the cleaning lady would have called the medics right away, the autopsy doctors said that he would still be alive today... it is a shame....

At about 2:45 PM on January 22, 2008, Ledger was found unconscious in his fourth-floor loft apartment, at 421 Broome Street, in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.

Emergency crews arrived soon after but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 3:36 PM, and his body removed from the apartment, while crowds of onlookers began gathering outside throughout that night.

After two weeks of intense media speculation about possible causes of his death, on 6 February 2008, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York released its conclusions, based on an initial autopsy of January 23, 2008, and a subsequent complete toxicological analysis. The report concludes, in part, "Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine."It also states definitively: "We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications." The medications found in the toxicological analysis are commonly prescribed in the United States for insomnia, anxiety, depression, pain, and/or cold symptoms. The Medical Examiner's Office also announced that it would not be publicly disclosing the official estimated time of death. The official announcement of the cause of Ledger's death heightened concerns about general "abuse of prescription medications." Late in February 2008, a still-ongoing DEA investigation of medical professionals "cleared" two American medics, who practice in Los Angeles and Houston, of "any wrongdoing," determining that "the doctors in question had prescribed Ledger other medications – not the pills that killed him."

he just took too many pills, cause when you on sleeping pills one is not enough to keep you through the night,so he just kept taking a few more plus painkillers, his heart couldn't keep with the race.Just wonder how on earth people like Amy Winehouse,Britney, and Pete Doherty are still ALIVE???
