Can elton john read music?

can elton john read music? if he can't can you explain to me exactly how he's so fampus even though he can't. How doeshe create music without using music notes etc.

I don't know if he can read music. He sure can create music with a keyboard. He's one of the best piano players I've heard. But, occasionally you hear about people who can play piano but can't actually read music.
