I just don't see how he is that great? I am quite an experienced drummer but... I just don't see how he is that great... No offence to people who think he is amazing but, it is usually the older generation who think he is the greatest. I'm not saying he isn't good because he is... But how does he even compare to drummers such as Thomas Lang, Mike Portnoy, Tony Royster Jr.

Hello.I think he was a good drummer. He had a good sound.Technically he was a straight beat kind of guy.I think because Led Zeppelin were so successful he was rated as brilliant. In my opinion there are better.I'm a big Neil Peart fan.My number one.

I've been a bass player for 7 years now and I just managed to piece together a drumset and am now practicing drums. Usually I practice to my favorites... Tame Impala, Led Zeppelin and Rush, and I'd have to say, starting out... Bonham is very boring to play for me. Hes an excellent drummer for beginners in order to tighten up the beat and focus on tempo, but when it comes to fills and interesting parts he is even less involved than Kevin Parker, and way below Neil Peart. That being said, his sound was HUGE and powerful and very desired. That is what I think made him overrated. But of course, every art style must have its beginnings, and hard rock drumming started with Bonham.
