George Lucas Blames 'Star Wars' Critics for Killing Series
Sci-fi filmmaker hurt by harsh feedback from some fans about the prequels

For any fans awaiting future "Star Wars" films from George Lucas, it's going to be a long wait. The creator of the famed series says he's not going to make any more of these movies and that he's essentially retiring. And for that he blames the harsh feedback from certain fans.

"Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" he tells The New York Times.

Lucas continues to bash these critics despite the fact that their appreciation for the series helped it generate $4.4 billion in worldwide box-office sales.

"On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie," Lucas says. "I'm saying: 'Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.'"

Lucas drew strong attacks from "Star Wars" fans for characters like Jar Jar Binks and for digital additions to the DVDs and re-releases of the six-part series.

"I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff," he says.

This is very unfortunate news. I am a big fan of George Lucas. Sci-Fi is a genre that is only appreciated by the open minded. Once one excepts the storyline the movie becomes a joy ride for the imagination. I've always considered movie critics as nothing more that "wannabees" to the movie industry. They are people who have to depend on others great talents to make a living.

I am always in awe of those who make these wonderful films. Lucas should complete the third trilogy as he had originally planned. I've read the last three books and they are fantastic. A perfect conclusion the the "Star Wars" saga. I hope he reconsiders.

Originally, George Lucas said there were to be nine movies in the complete cycle. In the 80's he changed his story and said it would be six. The three movies that tell the story of the generation after Luke and Leia will not be made.

He may be blaming the critics, but the fault lies in the breakdown of the storyline and the dependence on weak plot elements. Don't blame the critics. In my opinion, it was the video games and interstitial content that was never part of the original design that is the reason for the failure of the franchise.

He's ready to move on to other subjects and break free from the Star Wars cycle.

George is the one who set up a scenario that required a basically impossible and ridiculous romance between Amadala and Anakin in order for Vader to be Luke's father rather than the person Obi Wan first said he was in Star Wars. If Vader had been "a young Jedi who betrayed and murdered" Luke's father because he went to the dark side, the romance could have been written to make a lot more sense.

We and something of the authentic followers are making plans a coup. we will typhoon into Skywalker Ranch and smack some experience into him. hes going to f*ck it up like he did to Indiana Jones.. persist with the unique it replaced into outstanding and continues to be familiar in the present day why attempt to remake it into something that would never ever ever be as sturdy as a results of fact the 1st. theres a south park episode approximately this authentic comparable venture, George Lucas is "raping" are formative years he desires a fact verify.

Better to have nothing than to have a crap movie. He can take his ball and go home.
